Notepad Neo

How It Works

How to Use the Free Online Notepad

No sign-up. No cloud. Just open the app and start writing. Notepad Neo is a free online text editor and online notes taker — here is everything you need to know to get the most out of it.

01

Open the online notepad in your browser

Go to notepadneo.com/notepad in any modern web browser on your computer, phone, or tablet. The app loads instantly — no account, no download, and no install required. If you have visited before, your previous notes are restored automatically from your browser's local storage.

02

Create and manage multiple note tabs

Click the + button to open a new note tab. Each tab is completely independent — it has its own content, font, zoom level, and formatting. Double-click a tab title to rename it. Right-click to assign a color or duplicate it. Close tabs with the × button. Your tabs are all saved automatically.

03

Format your notes with the toolbar or keyboard shortcuts

The menu bar at the top organizes all commands into File, Edit, Format, Insert, and View menus. The collapsible format panel below it gives quick access to bold, italic, underline, font family, font size, text color, highlight, and lists. All common shortcuts like Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, and Ctrl+Z work out of the box.

04

Your notes save themselves automatically

Notepad Neo autosaves your work every 500ms as you type. You will see a "Saved ✓" indicator in the bottom status bar. For large notes, it automatically uses IndexedDB storage to handle more than the typical 5MB browser limit. You never need to click Save to keep your work.

05

Export or print your notes anytime

Use File → Save / Download (Ctrl+S) to download your note as a .txt file. Use File → Export as HTML to keep the formatting intact. Use File → Print (Ctrl+P) to print or save as PDF using your browser. Your notes are yours — no account needed to export.

06

Install for offline use on any device

Notepad Neo is a Progressive Web App (PWA). In Chrome or Edge, click the install icon in the address bar to install it on your desktop, phone, or tablet. Once installed, it works completely offline — your notes are always available, even without an internet connection.

07

Use the floating window to write while multitasking

Click View → Floating Window (Ctrl+Shift+F) to open a floating overlay that stays on top of other apps using the browser's Picture-in-Picture API. Take notes while in a meeting, watching a video, or reading documentation — without switching between windows.
